With my nephew’s wedding coming up here in August, I’m prompted to start thinking about my own children’s future with planning and budgeting a wedding. With my two boys heading closer to the marrying ages, I’m curious to who pays for what and what kind of budget Russ and I will have to participate in their weddings. Russ and I eloped and then had a wedding reception with family a week later. That worked for us.
What is the proper wedding etiquette? To me, proper etiquette is what the budget affords. That’s where the biggest stresses originate, not knowing your budget or exceeding it. I don’t plan to go into debt to finance my sons’ weddings, but I would like to be able to give them enough to make the day special.
According to wedding advice I’ve found, the following is a breakdown of what can be expected to pay:
Reception: 48%-50%
Ceremony: 2%-3%
Attire: 8%-10%
Flowers: 8%-10%
Entertainment/Music: 8%-10%
Photography/Videography: 10%-12%
Stationery: 2%-3%
Wedding Rings: 2%-3%
Parking/Transportation: 2%-3%
Gifts: 2%-3%
Miscellaneous: 8%
* To avoid stress, allot about 5% of your budget for a “just-in-case” fund.
I’m glad someone calculated that one out for me. Wow!!! .
I now know that I’m blessed having boys. One thing that we’ll be able to offer the boys is a honeymoon destination through our timeshare if they want it.
