Found new homes for Buddy & Duke

dogsWell, we had to make the decision of what to do with our dogs now that the income isn’t coming in like it used to, when Russ travels for work it creates a hardship financially to kennel the dogs, and now Luke is getting older and may not be around to help us take care of them properly. What made us deal with the issue quicker was when Luke showed up one night with a beautiful black lab puppy…we called him Duke. We tried to see if we could do it. Luke took care of Duke really well. Buddy potty trained him and was really good with the puppy too, but then it came time to pay for shots, food, supplies. What do we do?

So we put a listing on Craigslist.com and within minutes people were emailing about the puppy and a couple people even asked about buddy our 5 year old. So we made a list of people in order that they contacted us. First appt. was the next day, but never showed up. Second person was driving down from Oceanside and he wanted Duke for a gift for his wife’s birthday, but his car broke down. A local gal had called the same time as the 2nd guy and she really wanted the puppy and got all excited that it was now available to her. So we took Duke over there. He’s got a huge backyard to run around in and a family with a little girl that fell instantly in love with him and him her. Perfect match.

No sooner than we find a home for Duke. We get a call from a woman that wanted both dogs together for their family and they had fell in love with the photo. Since the puppy was already in a good home, she changed her mind.

From the start We had one woman that called us for Buddy and said she’d pick him up the next day. She couldn’t bear the fact we had to relinquish him to the Animal Shelter. It was so precious… she told us if someone does offer a home to him though to look into it too, but she’s there tomorrow if we have no choices. Her older dog could use the company. That gave us peace that Buddy would be ok.

Within a half hour of finalizing Duke and confirming with the one woman for Buddy, we were called by Jennifer & BJ. They wanted Buddy. Their son is 6 years old and they really wanted a fun loving energetic dog to play with him, sleep with him, be a good companion to. They have a huge backyard and allow him indoors too. Within the hours they came to get Buddy. Instant connection. He loved them and they adored him. Buddy did every trick he knew. Sit, lay down, shake, stay. Good match. Buddy was actually smiling as they backed out with him. He jumped into his truck and sat right in the middle as if he belonged. Precious moment.

It was hard to do, but for the puppy… it’s best to do it now so a new family could train him and love him as he grows. For Buddy, he’s a great dog and I’m thankful he went to a good family. That helps…just knowing they’ll both be loved if not the same, but more. Bye Buddy & Duke we love you and will miss you dearly.

I find myself still doing the ritual of saying “Buddyyyyyy!!!” each time I come into the house. My heart thinks of him and cringes a bit, but then I remember where they both are and I’m peaceful and thank the Lord for intervening.
